Located in a lovely position, “with its semicircle composed of woody mountains, its hillock studded with little churches, its hamlets peeping out from stains” (Edmondo De Amicis, “At the doors of Italy”), Cumiana is the municipality with the highest number of hamlets in Europe, scattered on a surface of 60 km2.
The Parco Naturale Tre Denti – Freidour occupies 800 hectares and includes the pre-Alpine circle, which encloses the valley from 640 m.a.s.l. to 1343 m. altitude (Tre Denti Chapel) and to 1445 m. altitude (Freidour Mount).
Really close to the metropolitan area of Turin, here you can find an unbelievable natural environment which astonishes and delights those who come for the first time this territory made of stones, plants, waters and wild animals.
The landscape is always different: shades, colours and lights change continuously because of the different altitudes and expositions of the slopes. It’s possible to discover the Park and Cumiana hills by walking through the web of paths once used for the working and connecting activities among the hamlets. In the course of time new paths have been created for mountain hikes and recently also some forestry tracks.
The location offers some great opportunities for all the mountain lovers and the quality of the tracks makes it the perfect place for horse and bike riding.
Cumiana monuments witness a past full of history, from the Langobardic domination to the Acaja Signoria (a secondary branch of Savoia), to Canalis, to the French occupation in the XVI and XVII centuries; and the Castello delle Marsaglie evokes the famous battle between the French and the troops from Piedmont.
Beyond the artistic beauties, Cumiana offers folkloristic and sport events, cultural initiatives, exhibits, hamlet celebrations and culinary moments dedicated to the local gastronomic specialties… no time to get bored here in the city at the foot of Tre Denti!
Moreover Cuminana can be the perfect base to visit Torino, the Houses of Savoy, the Olympic valleys… to spend your holidays surrounded by nature and art: the delight of memory, the beauty of landscapes and the charm of tradition.
