“Our shelter-camping “Campo Base” is located in Alta Valle Maira at 1650 m of altitude, at the foot of the walls of the Castle-Provencal massif and at short distance from Stroppia icefall, an ideal location for hiking, trekking, mountain biking, climbing, ski touring, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing or just relaxing in the pristine nature of our valley.
The refuge is one of the accomodation point in the “great crossing path” (GTA, in Italian), Via Alpina, Cavallero Trail, Mountains Without Borders, Chambeyron Tour and Occitan routes. GTA is the flagship hiking itinerary in our mountains, and the ideal checkpoint to go climbing the Rock Provencal, the Rock and the Tower Castle or to ride on challenging mountain bike routes which reserve big emotions to all MBT-lovers.
THE IDEAL LOCATION FOR SPORT OR RELAX
During winter and spring the snow of the Maira Valley offers dozens of itineraries for skiing and snowshoing, with over 15 km of free slopes for nordic skiing, managed by our own shelter. In summer the hut joins the large camping area in the green banks of Maurin: tents and caravans are welcomed in our campsite, fully equipped with electricity.
The visitors can take the opportunity of eating our traditional Occitan and Piedmontese dishes at our restaurant: our cuisine look for old recipes, using local ingredients, such as meat, cheese, flour cured meats and fish: favoring seasonal products, we offer a balanced and healthy approach to food, which represents the values of traditional cuisine, where the flavors, aromas, scents were full, present and easy to recognize.
The refuge supports the activities of a “school of the mountain” in the Upper Valley, focused on training programs not only to learn sports but also to get used to live together in safety, while receiving an education centerd on science, technology and liberal arts as well”
