Borgata Vazon, 5
Altitude: 1659 metres.
From Turin take the highway to Bardonecchia (exit Oulx Est); once arrived in the village take the bridge on your right and, soon after, go left on Strada Cotolivier. Follow the indications towards Rifugio La Chardouse – Vazon and go on for 6 km to the refuge parking.
Once arrived in Strada Cotolivier, you can leave your car at the end of the village and go on walking a long the “G” path towards the refuge. After 2 km, leave the crossroad to Chateau on your right and reach Pierremenaud hamlet. After few houses follow the path on your right. We are located in the heart of Borgata Vazon, beside the church.
Farther than Oulx, drive towards Cesana until you reach the crossroads to Amazas hamlet. Next to the Dora bridge you can leave your car and walk to the end of the village. Here on your left there’s a dirty road toward Soubras that you can reach walking through the village centre. Farther than the fountain, follow the path towards the refuge in Borgata Vazon. It’s an easy walk that can take more or less one hour and 15 minutes.

The Chardouse takes its name from patois language. The Chardouse is a Carline flower, which was traditionally hanged on doors or front houses as an amulet against the bad powers of night and as a good fortune sign. This flower is also able to predict the coming of rain.
It was in our intention to create an Alpine refuge aimed to welcome all the mountain lovers coming to Borgata Vazon in Valle d’Aosta, from the mountain expert to the casual walker.
We created an inn able to satisfy all the needs of our clients, from overnight accommodation to complete traditional meals or simple snacks, sandwiches and drinks, always trying to give support and suggest hikes and activities
Our cookery always offers ancient local recipes from Oulx and the High Val Susa and we also dedicate our attention to Occitan delicacies in order to create local traditional menus, maybe elsewhere forgotten, that can represent the ancient culture from the Valley.
From the XIII century, this people has characterised the life in this territory and also all the songs and dances, which nowadays live in the village celebrations together with the costumes, tales, legends and life style of those who live in these mountains.
Everyday we will propose a selection of local starters, cheeses and cold cuts, then country soups, ancient local recipes or the traditional polenta, and then home made cakes… or you can simply choose the specialties from the cutting board, a snack or a hot chocolate.
We also create thematic dinners on demand: traditional Occitan or ancient Piedmont wild game recipes, mixed boiled meat, “bagna cauda”, braised meat, etc…
