Mezzenile, in the heart of Valli di Lanzo, only 40 km far from Turin, is the place where uncontaminated nature and wellbeing meet each other.
Here, some hosting and managing structures get together – and this is a peculiarity – to offer the possibility to discover the harmonic relationship with nature through a series of physical activities (like hiking, trekking, mountain bike, Nordic walking) and self disciplines (meditation, food education and personal growth itineraries).
THE PLACES: BETWEEN NATURE AND HISTORY
Just a few kilometres from Turin, in the heart of Valli di Lanzo and outside other “glossy” touristic circuits, the village of Mezzenile blooms with its historical centre and its ancient satellite hamlets.
In a dominant sun exposed position, its mountain territory begins from Stura di Lanzo river (650 metres of difference in altitude) and then sweetly goes up to reach some mountain tops at 2000 metres.
You can get by train to Mezzanile (these old style stations are sometimes mentioned in architectural books); then you have to go up passing through some dirty streets that connect the village to the other hamlets, each of them with its bell tower appearing from the chestnut and beech trees: today as in the past the bells strike the hours giving a deep feeling of peace and wellbeing.
In the second half of the XIX century, the Count Luigi, a businessman and intellectual as well, came here to dwell in the Mezzenile Castle – still today open to visits – and took advantage from the Alpine territory for his scientific walks and studies about productivity in the mountains.
The Count, charmed by the variety of the local fauna and flora and touched by the hard life of mountain people, went trough the paths and mule tracks that climbed up to the pastures and morainic stone grounds that are placed side by side with the roje, the irrigation canals going down to the valley. He stopped over at the arpose, the piles of stone on which mountain people used to put the load they transported on their head, he looked at the pyres where beech logs were slowly transformed into carbon, went through the woods and reached some clearings whose lakes reflected the sky as a mirror. So, in the complete silence and tranquillity, he had the chance to study the features of our mountains where, beside the beauty of nature, there was also the presence of shepherds, the exploitation of metal mines and the spike foundry.
Today this territory has gained charm and wilderness because of the abandon of the mountain communities.
It is here that we invite you to live the mountain just as if the time had stopped: the ancient roots that marked the territory are still here to touch those who come with a clear mind and a careful heart. For you we reopen those paths and mule tracks that our grandfathers used to go seasonally towards mountain pastures, loaded with supplies and accompanied by cows.
Tourists can immerse themselves into this simple and genuine reality feeling as a part of the endless setting of days and seasons, climbing up to those mule tracks that today are still walked by young shepherds. The hiker can stop over at the votive pillars full of history and ancient hopes, and at the chapels, now renovated, that witness the faith of the mountain people in old times.
THE DIMENSION OF THE NEW WELLBEING
The itineraries on the Count’s paths that pass through an uncontaminated nature, are the perfect chance to address our guests towards a regained physical and spiritual strength, sometimes lost in the everyday bustle.
In our opinion, to think about wellbeing means a new way to experience space, the natural one and that created by man. These are the places in which it is possible to meet ourselves and the others in a new precious dimension.
These are the main goals in order to appreciate life in all its aspects, creating the perfect opportunity to take care of oneself and to recharge.
Naturalistic resources are here gathered; we collected some qualified home run facilities that could allow the guest to feel accompanied in some places of mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.
You can stay overnight for one day or more, be led by expert guides on our mountain paths; and it is possible to walk new spiritual paths thanks to some relational counsellors; it is also possible to have your meals thinking about the quality and health of food.
